Acosta was created in 1942 by Cecilio Acosta, who opened a small workshop in Madrid, producing custom-made bags and belts. Before long, it became one of the Spanish capitals top names in leather goods. In the late nineteen fifties, the firm opened its first Acosta shop in Calle Hermosilla, in the very heart of Madrids chic Barrio de Salamanca, where it remained true to its aim of offering the highest quality and the best designs. Over the years, the firm consolidated its position in Spain and today has a nationwide network of 35 shops. Another key objective for Acosta has been its global expansion. In the nineties, it began exporting to countries including Germany, France and Portugal. The Asian market is currently a major target in its growth strategy, particularly China and Japan, where it sells its products through top department stores and multi-brand retailers. For the past four seasons, its collections have been available from Hong Kongs prestigious Lane Crawford department store. It has also set its sights on other objectives as part of this solid international venture, including Russia where it has taken part in Collection Premiere Moscow (CPM) and has its own shop in Moscow Jordan and Mexico. Acosta is one of Spains most traditional footwear and leather goods brands and it has made top-quality craftsmanship into its chief asset. Always keen to keep up with the latest trends, the firm launched its a! de Acosta line in 2003. This fresh, original collection has been designed by Brbara Ruiz, previously head of Acosta Junior.
